We are pleased to announce the 1st Virtual Mid-Atlantic NORC Symposium!
Featuring: Sadaf Farooqi
Sadaf Farooqi, FMedSci, is a Wellcome Trust Senior Research fellow in Clinical Science, Professor of Metabolism and Medicine at the University of Cambridge and a consultant physician at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, UK.

Please join the Mid-Atlantic Nutrition and Obesity Research Center to share a day of learning and discussion with some of the brightest minds at UMB and JHU. The Agenda for the Symposium is as follows:

10:30-10:45: Jay Baraban, MD, PhD: “The translin/trax mircoRNA-degrading enzyme: Role in regulating cellular plasticity”
10:45-11: Irina Timofte, MD: “Nutritional Supplementation, Progressive Rehabilitation Therapy and Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation in Lung Transplant Patients”
11-11:30: Break for Lunch/Small Group Discussion #1 with Dr. Farooqi
11:30-12: Break for Lunch/Small Group Discussion #2 with Dr. Farooqi
12-1: Virtual Poster Session: Gita Thapaliya, Hyunju Kim, James Perry, Shutong Du, Valerie Sullivan
1:00pm: Braxton Mitchell, PhD, MPH: Closing Remarks
The Symposium will begin with a Keynote presentation by Dr. Sadaf Farooqi, followed by presentations from our P&F Awardees. After the P&F presentations, there will be an opportunity for junior faculty and trainees to join a small group discussion with Dr. Farooqi. Spots for the small group discussions are limited, so please make sure to sign up on the registration page. To end the Symposium, we will have a Virtual Poster session where faculty and trainees from UMB and JHU will have an opportunity to present their current research.
